T22 battery and power supply

#1 Post by zver17 » Wed Sep 28, 2005 2:46 pm

My T22's hdd recently died and during replacement I was told that the batery was malfunctioning and may have caused the problem and was also damaging the motherboard. does this make sense?

it was not the original ibm battery but one of those replacement units bought online. it seemed to work ok as far as i could tell tho... I am using it in the dominic rep, where the electricity supply voltage seems irregular (at times even my shaver wasnt operating corrrectly) - could this have also contributed to the problem?

i will be buying a new battery, so i guess ultimately my question is - should i shell out >$100 on a true ibm battery or are the cheaper 3rd party replacements also suitable and my problem was just an exception?

thanks very much in advance!

If the power fluctuates during a HD write it could damage the drive. I'm not saying that IS why your drive is bad- it may or may not be- drives go bad all the time for various reasons.

Generic batteries can cause all sorts of issues but frying a board would be a little rare... A genuine IBM battery is definately better than a third party battery.
