HD for T23: Hitachi 7K60, 7K100 E7k100 ?!
Hi there
I want to install a 7200RPM drive into my T23, but I don`t know which one of the 7K60, 7K100 E7k100 I shall take.
Does anyone know what are the differences between those drives?
They are all 7200rpm and 8Mb cache.

First of all, the E7K100 and E7K60 are destined for servers where you have continuous operation and as little spin-on and offs as possible, therefore you should avoid them. The 7K60 is the first generation 7200 drive from Hitachi, it is well-tested, reliable and fast. The 7k100 is the 2nd generation, and comes in 60GB, 80GB and 100GB models. It is supposed to be faster than 7k60 while using less power, which is a good thing. However, they can be very hard to find as initial stock has been taken by large vendors. If the cash difference between the 7k60 and 7k100 at 60GB is big go for the 7k60, if not go for the 7k100._erazor_ wrote:Hi there

760XL, 560, 560E, 570, 600, 600E, 600X, T20, T21, T23, T40, T41p, T42, X20, X23, X24, X31, X60s, X60T, X200s. I should *really* get a cheaper hobby...
http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__Hitachi_ ... bottomline
7K100 is cheaper.
Also I am curious to know whether someone has benchmarked the 7K60 and 7K100 together

here is the 7K60 compared to the Seagate 100gb 7200.1, which should be roughly comparable to the 100gb 7K100:

nah, the 7k100 is faster then the 7k60 for several reasonshoya wrote:here is the 7K60 compared to the Seagate 100gb 7200.1, which should be roughly comparable to the 100gb 7K100:

1. improved technology
2. higher data density, so more date passes the head at same rotation speed

yeah, not to say it's just you, but why do people think that?
it doesn't make sense. why would you say the 7k60 is comparable to the 7k100? just because they're 7200 rpm? the seagate is also. just because they're by hitachi? hitachi makes plenty of drives.
a new generation makes a lot of difference

I was saying that the 7K100 was roughly comparable to the 7200.1 - take a look at these specs for yourself:mamamia wrote: yeah, not to say it's just you, but why do people think that?
