I just put 2(1-Gb PC2700 Crucial)in my R51(2883-2ZU) w/o any problems. Check out mwave.com, specs are below. I don't know if the newer R51 uses DDR2, so you will need to check what you have before you order. Mine is a few years old. Copy and paste the link below to autodetect your config
Keep searching, you will find them both for $160, rather than pay $145 for 1Gb. fyi, the R51 took a 120Gb hard drive upgrade w/o any issues

PC2700 DDR333MHZ CL2.5

Check in the Market Place Forum.

There are several very reputable members who carry Ram chips
for just about every current thinkpad.

This is where I obtained most of the hardware to upgrade my R50e
at very fair prices and with no hassle.

I have 11 r51 laptops and we recently upgraded the ram. We used the factory ones which in mine were Samsung. From what i read before purchasing the Samsung ram they are one of the better ram manufacturers. All in all so far so good with the Samsung ram in the laptops.

My R51 had 2 x 256 Rams. I bought a Kingston 1 Gig ram SODIMM and put it in the lower slot. the computer hangs - freezes. The dealer said that it would be ok to have one 256 ram in one slot and one 1 GIG ram in the other making 1250 Gigs.

I downloaded the Microsoft MemTester prog and the SODIMM passes all tests. So it must be the computer can't handle it. Putting the original RAM back in (total 512) and it doesn't freeze.

Is it the Kingston brand that is incompatable? can anyone help me on this? Am i supposed to have both rams the same value? or the same brand ? or both? or what?

Are you certain that the new RAM is PC2700?
