r50e boot up noise

#1 Post by mastermiaow » Mon Oct 10, 2005 4:12 pm

hello
I finally gave up on my tp600e and am a proud owner of a three month old R50E. Everything works so much faster and easier and I purchased some more RAM to boost up to 512mb.
However occasionally and at the moment the hard drive (I assume) makes a hell of a scratching/scraping noise when booting up and still a little after as well. It doesn't seem (so far) to affect computer operation but I am concerned as it doesn't sound healthy and surely shouldn't happen in any case?
Any advice appreciated.

Many thanks

Could it be the cd drive?

Have you run the diagnostics?

Thanks for suggestion
i don't think it is CD drive, no whirring sound and nothing currently in CD drive. However I ran defrag and noise has gone (for time being). Can you point me to where I can run diagnostics from?
