You may want to try the IBM website. They have certified used systems and offer few months of warranty.

Here is their website

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... Id=2576396

I am seeing some decent T series.

Also there are some systems on www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com that sell refurbished IBM notebooks.

BTW I have a A31p that I am going to be selling if you are interested.
I am concerned that the resolution is too high and unless you have a good vision things may be too small.

In that case I would look into a 15" with XGA resolution it will be much easier on your eyes.

Stay away from X series.

hmm ... can he not set the screen to a lower resolution? This might actually improve the quality of the screen image. In addition, might be a better deal here.

yes he can set it lower but it will lower the quality, actually making it blury.

Unlike a CRT a LCD has a prefered resolution (it's max) if the max resolution isn't used, the pixels don't line up and it looks horrible.

oops - yes that's true. What I meant to say was to increase the font size - within an application or also thru 'display properties'.
