the trackpoint for a thinkpad I series 1400 2611-411

i'm trying to start a restoration on my thinkpad, w98. my only problem is when i get to the "language" options my red dot will not move to english.
unfortunately, the trackpoint schematic on the back of the keyboard got cut. is there another way to move the red dot to english besides buying another keyboard? the keyboard is a 02K4737. i have tried an external keyboard but the tab functions do not seem to work and a pcmcia card w/ both a serial and usb mouse adapters but got a no-go. thanks in advance.
