4.1 Sound from ThinkPad Z series ?

#1 Post by arion » Sun Oct 16, 2005 11:44 pm

The ThinkPad has speaker out and mic in and uses the SoundMAX chipset.

Some motherboards like the ASUS A7V880 use the SoundMAX chipset as well but have speaker out front and speaker out rear and the MIC in can be used as MIC in and as 6.1 / 7.1 rear speaker out.

Is it possible to make the MIC in on the ThinkPad Z series rear speaker out ? I assume that this can be done with the drivers ?

I know that the SoundMAX AD1981 used in the T4x series only has 2 channels. But the Z60m uses a AD1981HD chip.

Thanks.

I don't think that is possible - not something I have ever/would ever try.

However, the Dock and Mini-Dock have SPDIF ports on them which I think should support at least 5.1

What Dock / Port Replicators actually have the extra Audio out ?

The basic (erm i mean essential) port replicator doesn't but the mini-dock and the enhanced dock do.

I am referring to the new docks as the Z series won't fit the old ones anyway.
