A31 and docking station

[IBM A31 & 600E]

i just recently have been having a problem with my Thinkpad and my docking station. i can use the Thinkpad normally without any problems with it undocked. now, when i try to start the Thinkpad in the dock it won't get pass the USER login in XP pro. i can not see anything except for the background...no icons etc. any ideas, thanks
