Looking for comments on this type of CPU upgrade. If you've done it, what kind of problems did you have, if any. Thanks

Why would you do that...it won't make a noticeable difference in performance. Max out your RAM, get a faster HD. Thats is all I would do.

from 1 ghz to 1.33 ghz is not a big impact on performance for the T23

but upgrading the hard driver to a bigger faster model (60 GB 7200RPM), and maxing out the memory to 1024 MB will be best
IBM ThinkPad T42 CTU # Pentium M 1.8 Ghz Dothan # Mobility 9600 64 MB @375/240 # Hynix 1024 MB PC2700 RAM #
Fujitsu 80 GB 5400 RPM # LG CDRW/DVD Combo Drive # Intel Wireless b/g mPCI # TFT 14.1 XGA Display # WinXP Pro SP2 Catalyst 7.7

Because he can (he hopes). :)

I upgraded the CPU in a 600E, and it wasn't too difficult. I just used the information from the Hardware Maintenance Manual for figuring it out. I was also careful and took antistatic precautions.

I haven't opened up a T23, so I can't comment directly on that. But if you see CPU's on e-bay that were made for the T23, then it should be possible.

I say go for it! It can be a fun project. :D

Thanks for the reply's. I already have the machine maxed out memory (1gb) wise and hd wise (60gb 7200rpm) and was hoping to pick up a little more speed by improving the CPU. I guess I'll wait until I can get a T4x machine.

If the CPU is cheap do it....the T23 is a fine machine. In some ways I like it more than the newer T4X series, especially since the newer ones can only use the 9.5mm CD/DVD drives which are crap.
