T21 DVD Drive

#1 Post by embguy » Fri Oct 28, 2005 9:52 pm

I purchased a DVD drive from eBay for my T21.
It reads CD. But it cannot read any DVD.
This DVD drive is Matshita SR-8177.
The device manager says the driver is ok.
It is using the same driver in my desktop with a BENQ DVD-RW drive.

This T21 has Windows 2000 Pro installed.
It is programed for region 1.

Any idea what is the problem.
Do I need driver for this DVD drive?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Do you have DVD software installed? If not, you won't be able to read DVD's.

I have the DVD Express installed on my laptop.
The windows explorer sees CD and NOT the dvd.
When I put in a CD, the drive LED blink a few seconds and the explorer display the CD title. When I put a dvd in the drive, the drive LED blinks forever. The explorer does not display the dvd title.

Try a CD/DVD lens cleaner. Sometimes drives just get finicky and a bit of dirt on the lens doesn't help. Either that or you'll have to get another DVD drive if it won't work and you want to see a movie.
