Upgrading Z60M video

#1 Post by laughingtonto » Fri Nov 04, 2005 12:44 pm

Anyone out there with a Z60M actually opened it up and looked at the X600 graphics adapter module? I went through the online manual but they don't provide enough detail to tell how it's connected.

I'm interested in whether its a standard ATI notebook module and thus upgradable. I found a site online that will sell an ATI Mobility X800 and was hoping I could swap it out in a Z60M.

Thoughts?

I was under the impression that the X600s in the Z60M were removable modules?

It's fixed to the motherboard. But I understand that you can software mod the x600 to FireGL V3200 spec and it unleashes quite a lot of speed.

In 3D graphics applications, yes. In games, you probably won't notice the difference. Maybe in OpenGL ones (DOOM3).
