Display Problems

#1 Post by natedog44 » Sun Nov 06, 2005 6:47 pm

Hi guys, let's see who can solve this one first.

My Thinkpad a20p has a strange problem. The desktop display is not using 100% of the LCD area. All of the desktop area is there from the software perspective (it's not cutting any of the desktop space off) it's just that it's diplaying in a shrunken space. For a visual image of my problem go into your desktop monitor settings and shrink your horizontal and vertical sizes.

On a regular CRT monitor I would just go to the menu and adjust the horizontal and vertical size to make it fit the screen, but being that this is a laptop I don't have that option. Any ideas?

What are your curent display settings? (ie. 800x600, 1024x768, etc.)

Also, what is your refresh rate? (65,70,75hz)

Edit: Have you installed the IBM display drivers? and what OS are you using?

In the BIOS, set Expansion to Off (it may already be off) and then set your display for the native resolution. If you reduce resolution to less than native and Expansion is Off, it will show in a smaller area. If Expansion is On, it should fill the screen but look pretty bad. The only practical way to run a laptop is at native resolution. ... JD Hurst

Thanks guys.

It's currently displaying in 1280 x 720 with no option of raising the resolution. HV Expansion is set to "Off".

Any ideas on how I can make an option available to raise the resolution?

This is a laptop that my dad found on a junk heap in the rain (not working), and I fixed =)

Thanks

Heh, it's actually fairly simple.

The suggestions from you guys prompted me to look further into the display settings... In the advanced display property settings under the "Monitor" tab I was able to add an IBM Thinkpad LCD 1400 x 1050 monitor instead of the IBM Thinkpad 1280 x 1024 monitor. This allowed me to adjust back to the native resolution =)

Thanks for the help guys!
