Software: Lower temperature on older Pentium III thinkpads ?

#1 Post by beeblebrox » Wed Nov 09, 2005 5:36 am

Hi folks,
I would like to ask you of anyone knows about a software to do the same on Pentium III (III-M) systems, like Centrino Hardware Control. Those older processors are running VERY hot and due to physics they should be able to run at a lower core voltage as well.

My other T20/T23 are running very hot and CHC can not control the chip set of the older ThinkPads.
Anyone know a solution? Help is highly appreciated.

What do you mean by very hot? I gave up monitoring temps on my T23's because they wouldn't go above about 43° C no matter what I did.

I actually DO work on the notebook and temps go up to 70°C many times.
So any help is highly appreciated.

Are you certain the temp inside your T23 goes to 70 C & over often? I have a T23 and I really do not believe it has ever reached 70 C inside or outside. When I plan to run it for more than a half-hour (which is often), I turn on an inexpensive cooling pad but not because it gets 70 C hot but simply to keep it cool as possible so as to maintain top performance and to extend system life.

Since the heat is generated by the processor, why not use the battery extending settings? Running the processor at reduced speed will reduce heat generation &/or using a passive or USB powered cooling pad should do the trick?

It might be due to worn out thermal grease in your processor that generate such heat. Have you ever checked on it? Mine processor never ever reached 70c before.
