R50e DVD Writer compatibility question

#1 Post by tabithaboof » Fri Nov 18, 2005 8:34 am

I am looking to replace my DVDrom/CDRW drive with a DVD writer (multiburner?) in the near future but I am having alittle trouble working out which drives are compatible with my unit.

Looking around ebay and a couple of other places many drives are compatible with the R50/r51 but dont mention the r50e. Is it safe to assume any R50/R51 compatible drive will work on my R50e?

Little further info, As far as I can tell from this page

I may not be able to upgrade to a multiburner with an R50e?

Anyone able to confirm?

It's "not supported" because you can't simply eject the UltraBay device. You have to open up the keyboard and remove some screws that fix the drive in place. Instructions are in the hardware maintenance manual.
