T21 Processor upgrade

#1 Post by Steve1961 » Mon Nov 21, 2005 10:57 am

Just became the owner of T21 850mhz model, with 512mb ram, but think its still a little slow. Running windows 2000 prof. Can I upgrade the CPU at all, or am I stuck with the P111 i have. Any other advice regarding speeding it up a bit. I have tried various software optimisers, but they dont seem to do much good

Thanks

yes you can specifics depend on the model/type

but a 1ghz or thereabouts isnt' really that much of an upgrade tho

will still be a P3

Are you running XP on it?

IME those run the 2000 that most of them came with quite well and XP ok but a little slow. Another option would be to start shutting off XP non-essentials. Themes, indexing service, system restore, fast user switching, et. al. for examples. By the time you are done trimming it will run about as well as 2K -tho it will look like 2K too.

I agree with slagmi's comments. There are a number of posts here on this topic. Search for "t21 cpu". The consensus seems to be that, if you upgrade the cpu you will also need to upgrade the fan.

Since you've maxed out the memory, you might want to think about a faster drive. If you've got a 4,200 rpm drive a 5,400 rpm will give a pretty significant speed increase at a reasonable price. I wouldn't spend the extra money for a 7,200 rpm drive on this machine.

:)

I own a T22 @900Mhz with 5400rpm HD and 512Mb ram. I ran smoothly but not really fast, unless you are playing games it is quite adequate. To improve your situation you can do this with min. expenditure,

1. Upgrade to 5400rpm drive
2. finetune your win 2000, or XP pro.

I recently own a T23 @1.2G it ran a little faster no major improvements. The fan comes on more regularly to cool the cPU, hence a noiser.

cheers
Hi everyone
