T30 Problem

#1 Post by Mithryn » Thu Nov 24, 2005 1:07 pm

Hey all

My sister owns a IBM T30, and has had it for about 6 months now. She had been having problems with the entire computer locking up on her, even after a reformat and reinstall. Just recently, when i went to turn it on, the screen doesn't respond, nor does it sound like the harddrive is spinning to load Windows. Is this a known problem with the T30, or is there another problem at hand. I'd greatly appreciate any help you guys can give.

Sounds like the system board has failed.

Do you recall any high heat issues around the periods of it locking up? Do you know if the fan had been running properly?

the few times i picked it up when it was on, it seemed to be running much too hot. Do you know of anyplace where i can pick up a new board for it?

T30's do run a little hotter than others, much more so than my t42, but it could have burned up. Do any of the lights come on at boot up. IF they do try connecting an external monitor, perhaps your LCD is dead. Absolute in Raleigh, NC would be a good place to check for a board, Len is a frequent contributor to this forum.

only the power on light comes on, and i did try connecting an external monitor, got a strange beeping sound for a bit, then it stopped. But nothing showed on the monitor.
