T30 Wireless WIFI Failure

#1 Post by RedRegulus » Fri Nov 25, 2005 3:44 pm

Two months ago, I established a home WiFi wireless network. My T30 connected with no problem until recently. Has anyone experienced subtle failures in the WiFi card provided with the original machine?
When I use IBM's Access Connections and choose "connect", after 5 seconds the status report comes back with "wireless enabled, disconnected". Signal strength is zero. Repeated attempts to connect simply fail again and again.
Windows Hardware manager indicates fully operational WiFi device. My miniPCI card is marked with "XIRCOM"; I don't really know what card I have. WinXP reports "INTEL High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Adapter with Modem II".
I think the problem is hardware because once, while trying to connect during an effort to debug the problem, the connection succeeded for about 30 seconds. Another PC and an iBook both connect successfully.
Therefore, I opened the back of T30 and wiggled the antenna connections, removed, and re-inserted the card. Still no success!
Before I spend $30 on a replacement card to test my hardware theory, I thought I would get some feedback from the forum: does anybody know about this kind of failure?

I recommend that you put this combo card on other ibm thinkpad to test again, such as T20-T23, X20-X24, A30-A31, R30-R32.
