unthinkable problems with ThinkPad R40

#1 Post by ThinkPad R » Sat Nov 26, 2005 5:18 pm

This is a product under IBM's reign & I had a few problems; therefore, Lenovo's worse?

1) The hatch button on the right slides in half way & doesn't perfectly shut. This is dangerous b/c if I'm holding the computer by the screen, then the base of the computer opens. I figured that the plastic that sticks out is bent outward--> I'm trying to bend it inward. Do you think that plastic will break? I've been doing it lightly, but with no effect.

2) The brightness of the screen is unnoticeably uneven. ???

3) The keyboards feel very weak after playing games such as Halo. Perhaps I punched in the keys too much???

4) The left click mouse button on the top works, but doesn't come up 100% & feels broken.

What should I do?

P.S. I think that there are virus writers who targer specifically at ThinkPads. For example, about a year and 6 months ago, my computer got a virus, which destroyed the Access IBM.

Sounds like this machine is a few years old - do you think that normal wear and tear has caused things like the keyboard issues or the latch issue on the display? It sounds like the ultranav button might be gummed up a bit - did you accidentally spill anything on it?

Hard to tell if you were rough on the machine or if these pieces were defective and failed prematurely - but if the machine is under warranty you should be able to call in the uneven LCD, sticky ultranav button, keyboard and latch. I'm not aware of viruses that target Thinkpads specifically, but anything is possible.

I have an R40 series machine that is approximately 2 years old and it isn't exhibiting any of the symptoms you have described so if you are under warranty I think you have a good shot at getting them remediated. Good luck!

No.

You can buy a new keyboard and perhaps new latch kit?
