Adanced Dock for Z60m

#1 Post by smek » Sun Nov 27, 2005 4:55 pm

Hi, Im about to purchase a the new z60m and probably will need a dock. For the advance dock on the Lenovo site it says that it has a half-size PCI-e slot, does that mean I can get a PCI-e video card and put that in? thanks

"One half-size PCI Express card slot - Supports a range of graphics adapter cards that allow for multi-monitoring"

I guess so. The ExpressCard slot is no more than a PCI-e interface with a few more leads. Not sure what popular cards would work in it though.

EDIT: out of the manual:

Note: The ThinkPad Advanced Dock accepts a standard height (111.15 mm (4.376 in.)) and half length PCI Express Cards (167.65 mm (6.6 in.)) only. Before you install the PCI Express Card, check the dimensions of the card.

If I have a z40t with integrated graphic card and would install additional graphic card into Advanced Dock can I expect a good gaming performance?

I want to play very rarely (mostly at home, sometimes in the office  ) but definitely not on the road...

Can external graphic card drive the notebook's own display or it works only with external displays attached to the Dock?

I have not seen one yet for less that 379 plus shipping, add a grfx card for about 200 and your putting more than a half a grand to play some games. Not the most economical solution, but im still not sure about what "half-sized" really means.
