T23 acting up out of no where...
T23 acting up out of no where...
Ok, here's the deal. I've searched the forum many times before posting this and I could not find an answer. One day while using my T23 I remember tapping it slightly by just putting my palms down getting ready to type and all of a suden the screen dissolves as if acid was eating it up. The cpu fan also starts to run intermittenly and I thought it was fried but I unplugged the power source and took out the battery and it shut right off. I plug everything back in and it boots up fine but ever since then, if I put it down on something hard enough or hit it with my palms, it will do the same exact thing... BUT now its at the point where when I boot it up it does it right away....
With all that said, I've cracked it open many times, reseating the CPU, RAM, BIOS, and mini pci cards and nothing has done it. I know this thing is not dead because I did get it to boot up fine once but a slight tap took it right down...
Has anyone ever come accross this with their T series thinkpads? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

fault
Intermittent fault is hardest to troubleshoot, I like to suggest the following, some you may tried arlready,
1. remove the harddisk, power to the bios. Try your trick again to see
whether the pc powers down. If not it is most like the connection of the
hd to the m/b. The next step is leave the system for a while and try your trick again. If the pc remains in the bios mode, the i think is your h/d or the connection to the hd is the problem.
This just a long shot, but worth a try.

Well... here's the thing. I've already removed the HD and tried that and it still does the same thing. One thing that I did not mention is that when I boot it up the LED's don't light up, as in the HDD and power lights, and also the LED's for the battery and AC power. Also, the CPU fan will not run at all... but the screen comes on and still does the acid thing... so I'm really stumped here...
Dealing w/ what might be a similar problem on my T41. Its not as sensative, but sometimes it'll go blank. If I bang on it, it comes back.
Get anywhere w/ this? Keep me updated if you do: roberts5@gwu.edu.
thanks.

T23
I had a T23 before I made a good desision and got an R40, my T23 did a simmilar thing so I pulled it apart and discovered that a copper coil on the motherboard was loose. It broke off when I lightly touched it with my finger. I decided to get an R40 instead of a new motherboard because I was tired of rebuilding the darn thing.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
