Others can be made to work but take some effort and lose some function. While perhaps not for the A22M in particular but this topic has been covered in depth, just use the search link at the top of the page. Visit wireless4laptop.com for detailed instructions. Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual from IBM if you want to install the antennas in the screen, it's not supposed to be that difficult but there is quite a bit of disassembly required.
Using an "official IBM card" is not an option. After reading your comments it appears to me you did not understand the question. An official IBM card is " a PCMCIA. An IBM 802.11g hangs out of the PCMCIA slot (antannae portion) The "dog" not (dof as stated in the last post), seems obsessed with the fact that she was able to get a chew toy from this part of the laptop, that is the problem. I could put tobasco on the WIFI unit, or shoot the dog, but have become keenly attached to her. The other option is to remove the card completely. TA-DA!! So I am looking for information on whether I will run into any unforseen problems when installing a mini-pci 802.11G
So what I am asking is, has anyone done the mod to an A22M and whether anyone has any specific suggestions or cautions. For that matter, not all mini-pci's are treated the same, so do I compromise anything more than modem? Will the ethernet connection still work etc etc. I don't have to worry about 1394 so am not concerned.
I said' that I had installed antenna before so am keenly aware of some problems. I personally do not find it an issue and, for your own information, attaching the antenna to the underside of the keyboard is much easier and results in less than 1db drop in signal strength.
So although this subject has been covered in depth on this forum, the specific issue I am addressing has not. Hence the question.
Thanks for your time in advance.
