Network card working only at certain times of the day

Hi all,

I'm having a problem which has baffled me completely and I'm completely frustrated by it. I hope that someone can help me out soon. It seems a stupid question but I don't have any choice than to ask it. I have an internet connection at my home. It is through a LAN. One of those 24online clients. The thing is that I cannot ping my ISP's server at certain times of the day. My inernet works properly throughout the morning. But after evening, it stops working. I cannot ping to the server. I'm running Win XP and have a static IP address. All night it shows 'Request timed out'. In the morning it magically connects and I have no problem. Now probably the problem would be that one of the hubs/switches between my place and the ISP's server must have been switched off by someone during the night (God knows why!) Is this really the problem? I do not have access to the hub or any other hardware on the ISP's side. Or is something wrong with my network card? or the settings. I've just bot a IBM Thinkpad, and I'll go mad if I find out that something is wrong with the hardware.

My thinkpad config is as follows:

Model: R51 2887 AE3
Network Card: Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection
IP Address: Static
OS: Win XP

Please ask if you need any more information. And I'll be grateful if someone can provide the solution.

It could be that there is something wrong with the ISP.

Or, if you are using a router, there are features that would not allow computers to access the internet during certain hours.

Do you have another computer that you can test your ISP connection during the evening?

Update

* My account is set for full acces i.e. 24/7.
* Other computers can ping the server while my laptop can't (during the night time)
* My laptop can ping the server of another ISP (during night time)

Any tips?

Try to change the clock on your computer to a daytime. The computer should not know whether it is day or night.

Then reboot and try to connect. If it still does not connect I believe that the problem lies somewhere other than the computer.
