Restoring Rescue and Recovery partition

#1 Post by sambaMW » Sun Dec 11, 2005 8:24 am

Hi,

I have a Thinkpad 50e, which I bought used. I want to install Linux (Kantotix), but keep the recovery and and a small windows partition.
I deleted the original partition and moved the recovery-patition, which worked after this. Then I re-installed XP and installed kanotix.

Now I have the problem:
- The recovery-partition does not work anymore. Since I have made several attempts to make the system bootable, I assume it is destroyed.
- The XP does not start. The message is "NTLDR is missing"
- Linux also does not start, since GRUB is not installed correctly.

Unforntuneatly I did not check the recovery-cds which the previous owner made. There only 6 of them and none of them boot. It seems like there is a cd missing to restore the recovery-system.
My question is:
Is there any way to download the recovery-system-cd? Or do I have to order it at IBM/ Leveno?
Is there any posibility to get the installed XP-System to boot/run and recover the recovery-partition from it. Looking at it from a live-cd everything looks fine.
