#1 Post by mr45ax7bm » Sun Dec 11, 2005 4:25 pm

LAst week my note book TP R51 2887, shut down all of a sudden. I could not started machine. next day it started to work. But USB ports does not work anymore. I have updated bios and embedded programs and reloaded the windows. Windows XP device says USB ports working well, but nothing being recognized with the system. Once my external harddisk plugged to USB its motor starts to work but device itself does not being recognized, including mause and any other memorycards. Any comment?

According to many threads here on the subject, this is often indicative of a mainboard problem which requires its replacement. Other components such as the CD might also be affected.

I hope someone else can paint a brighter picture for you.

PCMCI

#3 Post by mr45ax7bm » Mon Dec 12, 2005 1:53 pm

Thanks for reply, I have checked everythink except wireless conection, they dont have problems. Today I have bought a PCMCI USB convertor it works without problem. However external hardrive needs extra power' energy from PCMCI could not run hardrive. It is strange that my USB ports still supplies power, so a power connection from Thinkpad"s USB ports to PCMCI card solves that too. I will try to reload BIOS again.
