Celeron to Dothan?
Celeron to Dothan?
Is it possible to switch out from a Celeron 360 to a Pentium M? Thanks
Performance
Is the performance difference substantial comparing a Celeron M and Pentium M Dothan cores for both.

The performance proble wont be that noticible if you go from say Celeron 360 to P-M at 1.6/1.73, battery life will improve dramatically though. And another reason for switching is if you bought a z60 with a Celeron, but its memmory is clocked to 533. The system will limit the memmory speed to 400, so uprgarding to P-M would have that added benefit of faster ram.
Celeron to Dothan?
Let me see if I understand this correctly. The Processors in the ThinkPad Z60t is mounted in a 478-pin, Micro Flip-Chip Pin Grid Array (Micro-FCPGA) package, and plugs into a surface-mount, Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) socket and thus can be swapped out with another of the same type? I had accomplished this in older ThinkPads and with Desktop computers, but was unaware the newer ThinkPads had processors mounted in sockets and not soldered in place.

Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad Z60t and check the parts list. If it lists the CPU's as separate parts then you know that you can replace them. Actual CPU packaging will require more research. If you Google the part number for the CPU you may find this information. FWIW, my T42 has a replaceable CPU.

Power mgmt Celeron 1.4GHz
If you are looking for enhanced power management (longer battery life)i on Celeron M then here's what ; I managed to use rmclock (rightmark cpu clock mgmt utility)to modulate the CPU clock frequency and also enable deeper sleep alert state (C4) in place of C3 (Enter C4 on C3).
It reduced my power consumption on battery from 1.2Amp to 0.85Amp at 14.9Volts. (I have a 4 cell battery)
Measured using the Thinkpad Power manager.
If a Pentium M user can also quote his / her power consumption it would be a good comparison.
Screen backlight was at Level 1.
Hard disk was running
The computer was idle.. I was doing nothing but staring at the Powermgmt console.

I was looking more at the performance benefit of higher clocks along with the higher fsb. I have a 4 cell battery as well and the most i could hold out on max-battery life was about 2 hours and 15/30 minutes. Hopefully ill be able to upgrade the battery to a 7 cell along with a P-M to get around 4.5-5 hours of battery life.
I knew about the pin-mods a while back but dont have the courage to risk screwing up a brand new TP and loosing the warranty. It was hard enough to unclip the palmrest and not brake anything
