#1 Post by bchai » Thu Dec 29, 2005 7:13 am

My thinkpad is about 4 years old, and I am thinking it may reach the end of its life... the problem starts about 3 days ago, i had my computer on overnight and it was switched off during the night and i found out when i woke up. and last night, it happened again and the machine just switched itself off, and didnt allow me to restart it. I am not sure about what cause the problem, anyone can help, please? I have waited for about 15-20 mins and then the machine can restart again, but only upto scan disk, then it switch off again.

I want to know about the problem and try to solve it, welcome all helpers to help. I am no good at computer at all, if possible, please provide a detailed procedures that i can follow.

Many thanks in advance.

Can you hear the fan working, when it turns on? Do you notice any excessive heat before it turns off? If so, it could be that it is over heating.

If the fan is running, does it sound ok? If not, it might be clogged or going bad. You can try blowing it out with compressed air.

If the fan isn't running at all, and you feel the excessive heat, then the fan might be dead.

Here is a link to your Hardware Maintenance Manual, which will include information on booting/power issues, as well as how to remove the fan if necessary:

thanks, tfflivemb2.
I will get a print out of that pdf and have a go. I will also try to mess around with the battery as well (from other threads). Hope it will be okay.

I have seen there is a program to note the temp when you startup and/ or shut down. but seems the link is dead, any chance of anyone who will still has the program? or a link i can go to?

Thanks.

Bchai.

I finished work and switched on the machine, and its now all fine except...... the fan is not running.... normally it will start (the noise) after about 1/2hr... but it is so quiet in my room.....

Would it be an overheat problem? is the fan dead or require some cleaning? if need to bea cleaned, i have download the manual, is it really easy to do this process? I really fear that i wont be able to put all the parts back to its place.

if the fan is dead? where can i get a new fan for my A22e model? do ibm sell parts in uk?

looking forward to all responses and helps....
thanks.
