R31 LCD Inverter EEPROM & Hardware Maintenance Diskette

#1 Post by danieldavid » Wed Jan 04, 2006 11:51 am

The LCD on my R31 2656 77U went dark and I'm considering replacing the inverter for the display.

Checking IBM's Hardware Maintenance Manual, I saw that a CE Utility Diskette Version 1.10 (or a Hardware Maintenance Diskette Version 1.10) is necessary in order to program ithe inverter's eeprom for the actual model number of the LCD panel that is in use.

Has anyone had any experience with this issue? Does anyone have a copy of this diskette or know how to get one?

Many thanks,
Daniel

My R31 2656AGU LCD went dark but I could tell it was still displays (back light was dead). I ordered a replacement LCD inverter from ACS (around $35 IIRC). I also thought I needed the CE Utility disk to program the EEPROM on the inverter but could not find the disk. Finally, I just installed the replacement inverter. It worked fine. No programming required. Has worked fine for months now. HTH

OK guys... I have a question.

I have a buddy who's backlight has gone out. He didn't want to spend the money to replace the screen. I have an extra inverter from my conversion. Are you guys saying that all it PROBABLY is is the inverter after all?

I'd be his hero if that's the case. He's just a poor college student and I'd fix it for nothing if changing out the inverter is all I'd have to do.
