MaxBright - info wanted

#1 Post by dr_st » Thu Jan 05, 2006 4:30 pm

As I understand, some models of Z60m featuring MaxBright WXGA screens have already been shipped to owners.

I'm interested to hear from the owners of such models about the characteristics of the MaxBright screen.

1) How is the brightness really? If possible to compare to other Thinkpad screens (like the Z-series non-Maxbright or the T-series Flexview/non-Flexview) - even better.

2) How is the screen for outdoor working?

3) Perhaps most important - what type of panel is it? TN/IPS/VA? There is an easy way to determine it, here's how:

Look at the screen at VERY large VERTICAL angles. If the color gets distorted (dark from below, bright from above) - it's a TN. If not - it's one of the others. In which case you do:

In a dark environment, load up a totally black image (fullscreen commandline prompt will do) and look at the display from large HORIZONTAL angles. If the black gets a purple shade, it's IPS - otherwise it's VA.

Thanks to everyone willing to provide this info.

MUCH brighter than my T30 and X20.

Acceptable, believe it or not!

Based on your tests, it seems to be a VA.

Get a ti cover. It's substantially better than the plastic...

Great, so now I have two totally contradicting claims on the most important thing I wanted to find out.

amitra - did you actually check it or do you base your info on some other source?

Thanks again.

I own a Z60t so i checked it. It's TN.

I also own two DELL flat panels and they have IPS.
verified (both from the specs) and visually

Thanks again.

I see. In this thread I was asking specifically about the MaxBright panel which is present ONLY on SOME of the Z60m models.

So far, NeilB's information makes me like it. Too bad that it's only WXGA...

The MaxBright are bright - for example the T30/T40 screens had a brightness of 150cd/m2 whereas the normal Z60m screens are 200cd/m2 and the MaxBright versions are 300cd/m2 so they are essentially twice as bright as previous models.

my z60m which has a normal screen has about the same brightness as my 20" cinema, so I'd say they're both quite bright.

MaxBright - Outdoor Bright Daylight Use

#10 Post by martini » Mon Mar 13, 2006 2:22 pm

Hi - read this thread with interest. I wonder if anybody had any comments or experience about the visibility and usability of the MaxBright display outside under conditions of bright daylight or sunshine? Does anyone have experience of how it compares to some of the transreflective LCD displays optimised for outside use? With thanks in anticipation of your comments.
