Only works in dock

Hi, I have a 1 year old R41.

Ever since new it has been used in the dock with a 18"LCD. Occasionally it was taken out, but it was always on when it was taken out.

Recently i tried to turn it on outside of the dock, and it turns on, hd spins, screen flashes, but it never really boots. It just sits at a black screen.

I have tried software updates, the monitor switch key, and other cleaning things.

what could be the problem?
