i tought it has 2 places for memory ?

Or have you 1 X 1024 and one with 512 mb ?

You got it. 512 mb SODIMM in one slot and 1 gb SODIMM in the other. The 512 was a freebe from levono. I'll upgrade it as soon as I get a chance to optimize the Dual Channel configuration.

The memory on the z60 is a dual channel type. It increases memory bandwidth to the CPU. Primarily because chipsets have much higher throughput than the memory can support. Dual Channel increases memory performance and therefore system performance. However, Dual Channel is optimized by having two banks of identical memory. So my configuration with 1 gb SODIMM in one slot and 512 Mb SODIMM in another is less than optimal. However, I haven't put my optimized configuration together yet - so this is ok for now.
