Desperate help needed

#1 Post by tibbar » Fri Jan 13, 2006 6:09 pm

Hi.
I have an A20m PIII 700 and a problem I can’t solve.
It has Windows XP SP2 on it and sometimes and I can't come up with a
Pattern windows will take 5-10 min to boot and I get bunch of errors
In "Event Viewer"
Source: ACPIEC
Event ID: 1
\Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware didn't respond...
I tried everything I can think of: Change CMOS battery, remove network card, boot from AC only, Battery only, change memory.
The problem is still there the worst part is it does not happen 100% of time, it is intermittent.
Anybody, please anybody have any idea what to do?
Is it bad system board (but it passes all PC DOCTOR-DOS tests)?
Thanks
Robert.

If you can get it to boot, you might want to download and install the latest version of your BIOS and Embedded Controller Program available HERE. If you've got the Software Installer, you might want to use that instead of a manual download/install. If you don't, you might want to download it (from the same link) as the Software Installer makes life much easier for you, downloading and installing everything you need to bring you up to date.

Bios

The Bios and all drivers are updated to newest versions.
I even tried to downgrade the bios and later update it to newest one -that did not help neither.
The problem is still there.

It's starting to sound like a mainboard problem to me. :(

Your problems seem related to the ACPI system. By any chance did you change them after install?

Windows installs a different version of the kernal depending if you have acpi enabled or disabled in the bios. If you then try to let the bios control acpi after install corruption can occur.

Try a repair install of XP.

Hi.
Thanks for replys.
I tried to load fresh Windows Xp on a new hard hrive.
Had to wait 5min for Cd to boot (it just hang there) and after first reboot
during instalation just black screen-nothing will boot.
Is it time to invest in a new system board?
Thanks.

Start PC-Doctor for DOS and check the hardware first.
If that is ok, then you have some windows problem.
