I've seen this happen before. I am not exactly sure of the cause and the solution, but try these two things (assuming you are using Access Connections). Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration. Double-click on this service then choose to Stop the service and also disable it. Secondly, give the laptop a few seconds after coming out of Standby before you try to use the internet.

If the above doesn't seem to help, I have my TCP/IP settings (IP address, etc.) set to manual rather than automatic for my home connection. This seems to work better for me. Usually I can come out of Standby with my T42 and Intel 2200 BG card without losing my connection. However if I cannot make the connection, I have to reboot like you.

FTR, I use the latest Intel drivers from IBM's site, as well as the latest version of Access Connections, version 4.01.
