Z60M battery, screen, and function

#1 Post by jiantbrane » Sat Jan 21, 2006 11:36 am

Hi. First post on this board. I'm currently using a Z60M with a 9-cell battery and a WXGA Maxbright screen and have three questions.

1) Has anyone handled one with a 6-cell battery? The 9-cell wobbles, and I'm wondering if the 6-cell does, too.

2) For those who have used the WSXGA (or non-Maxbright WXGA) screens, do you find them sufficiently bright?

3) The "function" button on mine makes a different clicking sound from the other buttons. Does anyone else's? If so, it shouldn't be a problem. If mine is the only one, it might not be desirable.

Thanks,
Howie

Hello!

What is the part number of your Z60m? Just curious - I bought the 2529-EFU and did not realize it was a MaxBright display until I got it. That said, it is much brighter than my Thinkpad X or T. For inside use I could live without MaxBright, but in natural light it's better. Are you considering exchanging yours?

I use the smaller battery exclusively. It's not a super tight fit, but it certainly doesn't wobble.

All I can say about my Fn key is that it is more quiet than the other keys surrounding it.

Hope that helps.

How do you tell if you have the 'MaxBright' feature then?

I use the larger battery in my z60t--, no wobble. The Fn key makes a slightly different click sound than some other keys, but this does not impact me in any way. Screen is just fine on my z60 type 2511. Just ordered the bay battery and 2G of memory and cant ait to get them. Great keyboard as compard to my Acer machine.

Take care

Whats the battery life difference between the 6 & 9 cell on your system?

I only have the larger battery--, it sticks beyond the back of the machine (7 cell). I ordered the bay battery and will time it to see how this `all day long' computing goes.

BoomAM, I assume you have a 6-cell battery, then? Does it wobble or move much when in the computer?

I have very little use for the 9-cell battery, because it sticks out, and I need to carry it in a backpack. Because of this, I need to buy the 6-cell if it doesn't wobble. If it does wobble, I need to return this thing and get an entirely different machine - and I need to decide by Saturday.

To find out if yours is MaxBright, right-click on the desktop, click on properties, click on settings, then advanced, then monitor. That sounds more complicated than it is. It will list it under "monitor type."

My configuration is the 253038U.

Thanks again for any information anyone has. Obviousy, I can't expect an IBM sales rep to tell me the truth.

Best,
Howie

The monitor is just listed as 'Thinkpad Monitor 1680x1050'.
I have a 6-cell, it wobbles a bit, but its not noticable.
