Should I buy the Combo IV drive or 2X DVD Burner drive?

#1 Post by lakersgo » Fri Jul 16, 2004 4:05 pm

Well, let me get the facts out first:

IBM R40 2722-6YU which I bought 3 months ago. Here is the list of my accessories from IBM website:
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... source=CCE

Well here is the question, the site lists Combo IV drive but not the DVD burner, they both are ultrabay 2000 drive, so am I ok to assume that the DVD burner drive will also work in my R40?

Btw, is there any news that IBM is going to lower the price on these things, I mean they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced on the website. Is there a trick to insert a generic drive and have it worked just as well? Thanks in advance.

This DVD burner will work with your ThinkPad. Every UltraBay 2000 device will work with your TP. The new UltraBay Slim devices will also work, you just need an UB Slim to UB 2000 adapter.

Allright, thanks. I got the Combo IV drive...just couldn't justify the $$ on the 2x DVD burner.
