Switch Titanium cover to Black

#1 Post by CTDW » Thu Feb 02, 2006 4:23 pm

I recently got a 760m and it came with the Titanium cover (my model was not available with the Black cover) and I would like to switch to Black and may also add the WWAN ant and card.

I ordered a black cover and also saw that I have to replace the hinges as well. The cover does not come with the ThinkPad logo sticker (just a blank recess for it) and IBM support can't seem to figure out if I can order a logo sticker. In the past the covers came with the sticker on it. Any ideas on how to get the sticker?

It's silver and looks like just taped over the black one.

It's not bad, but I really prefer the black as a long time ThinkPad owner.

If to want to come to Tampa, FL...I'll trade you my black cover for your titanium. My black cover has the IBM logo in it =)

I love the Ti cover. Judging by it's thinkness - I really do think it would stop a 9mm JHP subsonic as the rumor goes.

I tried calling to have my black changed to the titanium and was told that the actual cover material on both is titanium, but that it's just the coating that is different.

Where did you find the replacement? Is it on Lenovo's website?

Not true. Standard business black is ABS plastic body, and ABS plastic lcd cover.

On the Ti and blakc models, the back cover, hinges, and all that stuff is unique.

I agree that the cover is plastic on the black model. From the parts list though, it seems like the only parts different are the cover and hinges. What other "stuff" do you think is different?

My company resells and services Lenovo, so I ordered the replacement LCD cover from Lenovo parts. You can also order parts from the website...not sure of the URL. The LCD cover replacement is not a quick job, I would not recommend it unless you are comfortable taking your entire notebook apart. Without the replacement logo sticker, it would also not look great.
