Just bought a R51, battery life?

So I got my R51 a week ago and I was wondering what kind of settings I need to achieve optimal battery life.... Right now when I'm charged at 100% my laptop says I have around 3 hours and 40 minutes of battery life. I read somewhere that an R51 should have a 5 hour battery life....?
Also I've noticed a small clicking noise every 5 minutes or so coming from my laptop.... I'm guessing this is a normal noise coming from the harddrive? any response is appreciated.

You can change your power setting to get better battery life in Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>Power options>Power schemes. You can also use IBM's Battery MaxiMiser. That sound might be either the hard drive or the fan. What hard drive do you have?

you can buy a 9-cell battery on ebay or something that will give you a much longer battery life as well.
