G41 DVD Movie Driver Question

#1 Post by futurejp » Mon Feb 06, 2006 3:48 pm

This is somewhat related to my other post, but more specific. I uninstalled most of my programs, so I have no crap (I think) on my computer.

I opened up Windows Media Player, and I played a DVD movie...and after a minute or two, it started using lots of CPU and stuttered and was unwatchable. This same thing happens if I try to use a different program, like Intervideo WinDVD. BUT, then I loaded a DVD disk that had data files on it into the drive, and I used WMP to play Star Wars as a data file, not an actual DVD movie....and I could watch the whole entire movie fine. The ONLY variable I changed between the two tries was the type of file I was trying to watch: a DVD movie or a file on a DVD.

So this makes me think: is there a particular driver used to read DVD movies, but not to read files off a DVD? That's the only thing I can think of. If anyone has any ideas, please share them. Thanks.

Any ideas? It seems like it has to be something with a driver for my cd/dvd drive.

The driver details show:

cdrbsdrv.sys
cdrom.sys
drvmcdb.sys
GEARAspiWDM.sys
imapi.sys
PxHelp20.sys
redbook.sys
sscdbhk5.sys
storprop.dll

So I guess....should any of those not be there? Or is there any way to tell if one of them is messed up?

Again, keeping all other variables the same, if I try to play a dvd movie, it messes up, but if i try to play a dvd data disc, the files can be played perfectly. So it has to be something in the reading of movies from a dvd movie disc.
