7200RPM harddrive upgrades complete

#1 Post by Chiana » Fri Feb 10, 2006 2:02 pm

Recieved my harddrive today and the Ultrabay 2000 second hard drive adapter. Downlaoded and installed Acronis True-Image. Ran it in trial mode. Put the new 80gb Hitachi 7K100 into the adapter. Ran Acronis. Turned machine off, swapped drives. And done. The whole process took about 40 minutes. Completly painless. Thanx Wolfman for the info on Acronis and the process. Boot time was cut in half, and Adobe PS and Illustrator load in a reasonable amount of time. Its quiet too.. my 4200 made more noise. As for heat, when I took the 4200 out it was hotter than the 7200.

Also, I downloaded the option software for hitachi and maked a bootable ISO to change the default power setting.

One thing I did figure out... its not a good idea to use the UltraBay HD adapter witout a drive in it. I was planning on leaving it empty just to take up the space so the CD didn't have to go back in. Problem is that t adds about 20 seconds to starts and resumes. Probably because it is trying to find that drive that is not present.
