r52 harddisk working in PIO mode

#1 Post by thephenom » Fri Feb 24, 2006 2:48 pm

i just bought an R52 last week. despite running on a 1.8ghz processor, the machine was running very slowly. on further investigation, i found out that my hard disk (HTS541060GN1800) was running in PIO mode instead of the usual UDMA-5. i have already enabled DMA in the BIOS without effect. can anybody shed some light on this problem?

thanks in advance.

Just change the controller back to DMA in device manager.

Did you set your machine to not suspend when you close the lid?

the device manager controller is set to "DMA if available". and yes, the machine does nothing when the lid is closed.
