A20M DVD's: Dual Layer DVD+R capable?

I have two A20M, one with DVD/CDRW the other just DVD. I had to upgrade the firmware before the CDRW one would read DVD+R (single layer). I looked up the specs on the internet and both are dual layer DVD-ROM capable. I didnt see any confirmation that they would handle DVD+R dual layer. Isnt that different from ROM Dual Layer?

GCC-4240N DVD/CDRW 0213 -> 0214 before DVD+R could be read
hitachi GDR8081N DVD-ROM ver 0012 handled DVD+R

Running the latest Nero infotool indicates that neither device will read DVD+R let alone dual layer. That is an error as I can easily read acronis backups on DVD+R media. It is taking two DVD's to backup each A20M and I was thinking of getting some dual layer media as the price has started to drop.

Burned acronis backup on verbatum 2.4x Dual Layer DVD+R using Nero 7 and was able to mount it on both of the above drives.

Anyone able to read DVD+R dual layer media on these devices?
