A22m Fan Problems

#1 Post by ryan42 » Mon Feb 27, 2006 8:12 pm

Hello. I am working on a friend's ThinkPad A22m. When you first turn on the computer the fan runs slow but turns off when Windows XP begins to load. It never turns on after that and the computer eventually locks up presumably from being too hot (the fan assembly is very hot after it has locked up.) If you reboot it after the lockup it will lockup sooner and sooner every time until it gets to sit a while which leads me to believe that the fan is not doing its job of cooling. Apparantly it works because it flips on during power on but never agian after that. This is a default installation of Windows XP Pro. Do we need anything extra to get the fan to run? Will the Thinkpad fan control utility help us out here?

Thanks!

My A21m does a similar thing with the fan except mine shuts off instead of locking up. The fan runs full speed in BIOS but once Windows starts to load, nothing, fan just stops until computer shuts off from heat. My guess is that whatever controls the fan is crapping out. Not sure how to get around though.

This one just freezes. I wasn't looking at it very long but tomorrow I will try to run a motherboard monitor utility on it as well as the fancontrol util to see if it will help any.
