While traveling I had to replace the backlight on my R-31 (or rather had it replaced by a tecnician) Either he, or I (in the removal process) messed up the Wi-Fi antennas it appears.
Any hope other than an external Wi-Fi adapter? (which I happen to have a spare lying about but would prefer not to use)
Thanks in adv ance

Hi wa8yxm,
Are you getting any wireless signal at all? Perhaps tech forgot to reattach the antenna leads inside the mini-pci card bay. To check remove the access door covering the bay (this is the cover that directly under the hard drive. There should be to small connectors plugged into the card (a black & grey one).
It is possible that the primary antenna lead was damaged during the replacement of the backlight, either pinched or cut, if so it will have to be replaced. Even if the primary antenna (which is inside the LCD casing) is inoperable, you should still be able to pull in a signal from the auxiliary antenna (built inside the base near the left hinge).
You can visit the IBM or Lenovo website and download hardware maintenance manual (HMM); it shows the correct routing and connection of the leads.
