A22m freeze

#1 Post by digitalmadman » Sun Mar 12, 2006 2:37 pm

I have an A22m, I just got it and love it. I have had several laptops and have decided to return to IBM.

now to the problem, my screen freezes, my wireless card still seems to be working and my battery light begins to flash. I am at a loss as to what to do, I have two 256 mem modules installed.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but my yahoo icons were not animated, and my mouse would freeze momentarily wile web pages loaded. it was like this even with out yahoo, I drooped my display to from 32bit to 16 bit and that "seemed" to fix it and "seemed" to fix the freezing problem. I logged on this morning and it froze again.

any and ALL help will be apreasheated...

Are you getting any error msg's? Run AV and spyware and see if any bad things are going on.

Go to event viewer, system and application and search for errors related to the time which the machine locked up.

no error message, just freezes. it's a fresh install (3 days old). when it reboots, it doesn't even ask to go into safe mode, it just boots like it's supposed to.

OK, heres the update so far...

I have flashed the bios, didn't help. I turned down the graphics acceleration, went for a few days and then it froze up again...

it "seem" to lock up when I am scrolling on the web.

I can't remember if it's done it anywhere else.

for some reason I have this gut feeling it's in the video.

Config:
A22m
Airlink+ WiFi card (using the airlink utility(Awl3025))
fresh install XP Pro...
Avast AV

I recently had the same freezing issue as you. Thankfully I was under the IBM servicepac warranty and they replaced the motherboard/system board.
Fired up my machine and have not had any issues since.

yeah, sounds like the video chip is going bad, my T40 did that.

Unfortunatly this means it needs a motherboard replacement.

We'll see how much joy it brings when you start checking out those systemboard replacements. (sorry, couldn't resist)

Seriously though, good luck with finding the replacement board....check hammerheadtech on eBay...very reliable.
