Memory and CPUs

#1 Post by cybercorsair » Mon Mar 13, 2006 2:26 am

Ok I have an ThinkPad A31 Laptop P4 CDRW 15 model 2652-C4U so I going to max out the meory for the system and need to know where other than eBay would be best to find it.

Also I want to look at best price for a fast CPU for later unless i find a great deal. I have a 1.6 now want to go higher like 2.2 or better maybe the 2.6.
doing a google search I'm not seeing a lot of place selling the P4 Moble CPUs and not any on ebay right off. so if anyone has a great place to shop online or in the Northren Califoria area please let me know.

Thanks

Hello,
What I would do is visit Corsair, Crucial, or Kingston to find out what ram is compatible... just enter your TP model number and the sites will give you a list of recommended ram. Then go to Newegg.com or ZipZoomFly.com and see if they carry anything that was recommended on the memory sites. BTW, sometimes the memory manufactures have good deals themselves.

As for the CPU, I normally buy that stuff off ebay... retail is just too high priced!

I'm sorry I missed the beginning of this thread.

The max memory for the A31 is 2GB, not 1GB.

Any memory spec'ed for the T40 (PC2100) will work just fine in the A31 or T30, which will also max out at 2GB.

Any chance of returning the 2 sticks you just purchased?

The difficulty in finding upgrade CPUs is addressed in several other recent threads.

The increase from 1GB to 2GB was the result of a BIOS update.

When the "docs" were written, I don't believe that there were any 1GB sticks.

I searched the forum and can't find the post i seen that gives the CPU modle # for the A31 thinkpads.

I wanted to see if i can find a 2.2 or 2.6 CPU but like to find the list of the CPUs model numbers to pass on to a friends show so he can find one for me..

Thanks

No. But how can you change your CPU?

Isn't that changing the entire motherboard?

Can I change my graphics card?

Here it is, right from Intel.

First listing is the applicable one, max. upgrade is to a 2.6GHz Mobile P4.
