replace an A20P keyboard

#1 Post by aleb » Wed May 12, 2004 4:52 am

Hi.

I want to replace a German keyboard with an English keyboard for an A20P laptop.

Please tell me what other laptop models have the same keyboard type.
For example, T20 keyboard seems the same, but how do I know it's exactly the kb model I need? (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 28234&rd=1)

Thank you.
Alex

According to their FRUs, they are not the same. Here is the A20p keyboard FRU list http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-41120
...
And here is the T2x keyboard FRU list http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4UYKB7

But according to their actual picture.... Well you decide:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4PEV9X

They look very similar.

Sorry to bring back a thread that's been dead for two years now but I thought that this was worth noting here.

Yesterday I was helping my friend replace the Latin American keyboard on the A21m I traded to him with a spare T series US keyboard I had and while the parts look very similar, there are two significant differences. First off is the placement of the two bolts on the underside that the screws go into. You will have to remove one of the two bolts with pliers for the keyboard to go down into the laptop. Next up is the connecter which on the A series, is offset slightly sidways in comparison to the T series. To remedy this, I used a knife and carefully cut through the foam gluing the connector to the keyboard and even more carefully (after placing the keyboard on the computer) used my hand to manually place the now free moving connector into the slot on the motherboard.

Once all was done, the T series keyboard worked without flaw on my friend's A21m but because there is one bolt missing, the keyboard pops up just slightly at times though it still works just fine.

Oh, also, if you have an i1300 or i1200 keyboard manufactured in Thailand, most of it's keys are swappable with those on a T2x or A2x keyboard made in Thailand.
