R30 Start-up issue

I have a R30 Type 2656, Model 24M. On switching on it does not get past the IBM screen with the F1, F11, F12 options. If I hold done F1 whilst powering up it says "Entering the IBM BIOS Setup Utility" but gets no further. Any suggestions on a diagnosis?

Maybe you need just to take it to a Laptop service center and hand over a fistful of cash.
