Is yours Win XP Home?

As far as I remember, only the ones with really low end processors were sold with Home edition.

did you get it directly from IBM?

It is a Celeron 2.0 ghz. I didn't buy it from IBM but from ebay. XP Home is what is loaded on the factory restore partition. I have XP Pro installed but am having some problems with the second battery, and was thinking that a set of recovery cds from IBM may fix it.

I'm not an expert at this, but I don't think it would be your OS that's responsible for the battery problem.

Go to Add or Remove Program, click Access IBM Tools, and reinstall IBM Battery MaxMiser Gauge.

If that doesn't help, then it's definitely the battery's problem.

I wouldn't factory install if you want Pro.

Why would it matter that some 2681's compe with pro anyway?

:!:
oh. so that you can get the factory install cd's w/ pro for your 2681!

I tried to reinstall all the drivers from IBM no luck. The second battery is fine because I can remove the primary and boot ontot the second battery just fine. It just won't switch automatically when the main battery is low.

My R40 2682 came with Xp Home, I don't believe I've seen any of them with Xp Pro.

I bought a refurb R40 2681-LU1 last year, 1/17/2005, It came with XP Pro on the hidden partition which I had to install. Its initial shipment date was 6/16/2003.

FWIW, as the OP is from last month, ALL 2681s came with XP Pro, according to trwbook.pdf.

As for trying to resolve the battery problem, I would try what was posted earlier, install or reinstall the Battery Maximiser program.
