Hey! Where'd ya get that thing?

#1 Post by Brillig » Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:41 am

Hello! I'm going to buy a 2529E3U today. I want to enjoy it before the technology becomes irrelevant, so I'm going to buy it from an online reseller and avoid the Lenovo purgatory that is sales. Anyone reccomend a good US seller, or more to the point, anyone to stay far away from?

Thanks.

I ended deciding on the 2529E3U. Very nice. I will be upgrading over time (maxing out ram, getting a bigger drive when sata prices drop a bit), but this is the best ThinkPad I've had yet.

I ended up just deciding on the model that most closely met my needs/price and googled it. I saved a few hundred bucks from the Lenovo price, and I had it in three days, not three months. I'll be taking that route again.

I got it from CompSource. Basically, I ran the model number through Pricegrabber, and compared reviews of the sellers, and saved about $200 on the Lenovo price.
The only caveat I have for this machine (2529e3u) is the video. It comes with the intel 915, and it does fine for me, but I've heard the ATI X600 will handle Vista properly if/when it comes out. Other than that, this laptop rocks.

Most computers will be able to run VISTA - its jut the graphical bells and whistles that wont be available. The core OS itself though - yes these laptops will run it.

Well. machines that come with intel graphics like 940 or 950 also can be able to run vista but, the basic version only, vista ultra or vista ultimate those are that require at least 128MB Video card and over, overall , all machines must have at least 1GB of ram memory!

> 2 GB RAM > 128 MB ATI X1400 (hyper Memory)GPU > 100 GB HDD @ 7200 rpm. SATA > DVD Multiburner > Intel a/b/g. - Bluetooth - Finger Reader > 9 Cell Battery
