Why Brazilian R51e does not accept mini-pci wireless?

#1 Post by mmorelatto » Fri Mar 31, 2006 3:11 pm

The Brazilian lenovo site states that the r51e (1843-A19) does not support the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Mini-PCI card. A support phone call confirm this (only PCMCIA support is available ) .

What is the technical reason for this lack of support, since the US r51e supports the Mini-PCI card? See machine details below.

ATI RC410MD chipset (integrated graphics, PCI Express x1 for ethernet
and ExpressCard) / ATI SB400 southbridge (ATA-100 EIDE, PCI bus,
USB, Low Pin Count [LPC] interface) / PCI bus 2.2 32-bit, 33MHz (TI®
PCI1510 CardBus controller, Mini PCI) / LPC bus 33MHz (PC87392
Super I/O for parallel)

AC 97 controller / AD1981B AC97 codec
Slot PC Card one slot Type I or slot Type II / CardBus 32-bit / PCMCIA 2.1

Slot ExpressCard/34 or ExpressCard/54 / PCI Express x1 ou USB
2.0

Most likely due to meeting RFI certification requirements.

NO MINIPCI CARD slot
for the reason to reduce the cost.
