Hello
Am undecided what R 52 to go for - hoping some of you can assist.
My use is mainly for writing and photo - (no gaming)
I have read the various comments and opinions concerning the displays on the R 52's, but would like to know if there is a major noticable difference in quality of display between the Media accelerator 900 XGA and the Radian X300 - the radian equipped laptops are about £100 more - is it worth the added expense.
Also, how do the displays cope out of doors - is visibility acceptable for typing?
Any user experience on these issues will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
david
R52 - display options ?
Display quality will not be different at all. The advantages of the Radeon are not only that it is much better for games (which you say you don't intend to play), but it also never needs to borrow system RAM, and if you ever upgrade to Windows Vista, it will be able to cope with its advanced (albeit optional) visual themes better. But it also has a disadvantage - it consumes more battery than the integrated solution.
I personally never buy with integrated graphics, because I don't want to permanently disable the option for me to ever play games on that laptop (video cards cannot be upgraded without changing the entire motherboard). But in your case, you may be better with the GMA900.
As for the display - the 15" displays are brighter than their 14" counterparts and as such will be better for outdoor work, but I daresay that even they won't be enough in very bright sunlight.

Re: R52 - display options ?
R52 is not bad. I used the R52 15" for 1 year and now i switch to Z60t. R52 is robust and Z60t is "okay". Still prefer my R52.davidjjohn wrote:Hello

Thanks
I am new to windows - so I probably will need to check back for basic advice - I like my Mac G4 Tower - but having looked at numerous reviews, I decided to opt for a windows laptop - it arrives tomorrow so might be a bit of a culture shock ? Anyway I am the other side of 60 so any new learning experience might help keep the synaptic connections active.
